Hurrincane Dean Update-St.Kitts 8/26/2007 12:29:50 PM Link 0 comments | Add comment August 20, 2007
In response to various inaccuracies that have been reported in the news over this past weekend, I would like to personally inform you about the current status of St. Kitts following the passing of Hurricane Dean this past Friday morning.
It is with the greatest pleasure that I can attest that the island has suffered relatively little impact from the storm and remains in pristine condition. Our tourism infrastructure is fully intact, with all hotels and attractions open for business and ready to welcome guests. In fact, those island businesses that ceased operations for a short period of time on Friday afternoon, resumed normal activity later on Friday or on Saturday. The squalls that passed over lasted only briefly, and caused no flooding or loss of power or cable services. Airline service in and out of Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport operated (and continues operating) as normal, and by Saturday night both residents and visitors were out on the town "liming." If you are considering booking your clients on a fall vacation in St. Kitts, we remain ready to welcome you to our distinctive island home.

Thank you
Mr. Richard "Ricky" Skerritt Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture for the Government of the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis
| Hurricane Dean Update! 8/22/2007 9:14:18 PM Link 0 comments | Add comment Vacation Express! We are pleased to announce that Hurricane Dean has passed over the Yucatan Peninsula well south of Cancun and the Riviera Maya hotel zones, leaving these popular beach destinations unaffected. According to the Mexico Tourism Board as well as many of our hotel partners, it is business as usual for hotels and local attractions. Resorts as far south as the Gran Bahia Príncipe Tulum are reporting no damage to the buildings or infrastructure.
Information from the Jamaica Tourist Board indicates that Jamaica's north coast resort areas of Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios sustained very minimal damage and clean up is well under way. All resorts including Sandals Resorts, Couples Resorts, Beaches Resorts and SuperClubs are open with no structural damage and are ready to welcome new guests.
The International airports in Cancun and Montego Bay are both open and accepting flights. Travelers are being advised to check with their airline for the latest updates on flight schedules.
Although most damage was minor, Vacation Express has been actively contacting those clients affected and will continue to do so as the need arises. We commend each location on their proactive response to this situation, and you can reassure your clients that a wonderful vacation experience awaits them at their destination of choice.
| MSP Weather, Runway Construction Impact Northwest Flights 8/21/2007 11:25:54 PM Link 0 comments | Add comment (August 20, 2007) – Due to runway construction and inclement weather today, airlines serving Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) are experiencing flight delays and some cancellations.
One runway was recently taken out of service for reconstruction of the center section. Since then, the Federal Aviation Administration has been directing air traffic on the remaining three runways. However, due to low visibility and wind conditions, only one runway has been available for arrivals for much of today. As a result, the airport has been able to accommodate only 30 aircraft arrivals per hour, compared to the usual 60.
Northwest Airlines is urging customers to check the status of their flights before departing for the airport. In addition to Northwest’s toll-free automated flight information line at 1-800-441-1818, customers can monitor the status of their flight online at www.nwa.com.
Through nwa.com, customers can also take advantage of the airline’s convenient “My NWA Info” flight status notification options, which proactively contact customers with updated flight information.
| MIRACULOUSLY...€¦SANDALS RESORTS REPORT NO DAMAGE IN JAMAICA, OPEN AND OPERATING NORMALLY IN ST. LUCIA 8/21/2007 11:15:53 PM Link 0 comments | Add comment MIAMI, FL, August 20, 2007 – All seven Sandals Resorts, Royal Plantation and the three Beaches Resorts in Jamaica report no structural damage today as a result of Hurricane Dean. “We are thrilled to report the extraordinary good news that our resorts have weathered the storm,†said an elated Sandals Resorts founder and chairman, Gordon “Butch†Stewart. “Thus far, the detailed assessment shows that Dean left no damage beyond landscaping. The resorts never lost power, guests are comfortable and debris clean-up has begun and all of our resorts are open, operational and accepting guest arrivals. In St. Lucia, where Hurricane Dean glanced past north of the island as a Category 2 storm on Friday, all three Sandals Resorts are open and operating normally.
Since St. Lucia and Jamaica did experience hurricane force winds, Sandals and Beaches enacted their Blue Chip Hurricane Guarantee and every guest staying at the three Sandals locations in St. Lucia and ten Sandals and Beaches locations in Jamaica, will receive a free replacement vacations ( excluding airfare) to return.
Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts Hurricane Blue Chip Guarantee provides affected guests with a free replacement vacation (excluding airfare). The free replacement stay is for the same duration and room category as the originally booked trip and is valid for one year after the original vacation.
In addition, guests at resorts in Jamaica reacted with thunderous applause to news that Sandals chairman Stewart extended a complimentary night for guests who could not depart their resorts in Jamaica due to cancelled flights last night or this evening.
“What could’ve been an awful day has turned into one of the most blessed,†said Stewart. “Dean turned south sparing our beloved Jamaica. Our people are safe and our resorts in St. Lucia and in Jamaica are in impeccable condition. The investments we’ve made in these countries including our new river suites in Jamaica and rondovals in St. Lucia are unscathed and ready to welcome guests. It’s all good.â€
