CURAÇAO DEEMED A HOT DESTINATION TO WATCH IN 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CURAÇAO DEEMED A HOT DESTINATION TO WATCH IN 2011 BY FODOR’S, AOL TRAVEL AND SMARTERTRAVEL
Scuba Diving Magazine Awards Island With Best Dive Operation, Best Dive Site Accolades
WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO – January 24, 2011 – Curaçao is popping up on every jetsetter’s travel radar for the New Year! The colorful Caribbean island has been selected as one of the ‘Top 21 Places We’re Going in 2011’ by Fodor’s, one of the ‘Hottest Destinations for 2011’ by AOL Travel and one of the ‘Destinations to Watch in 2011’ by SmarterTravel.
Curaçao also took home two awards from Scuba Diving magazine’s “Top 100 Gold List,” for the “Best Dive Operation” (Ocean Encounters) and for the “Best Dive Site” (Superior Producer).
“Curaçao is proud and honored to be on the top destination lists of three of the world’s most respected, trusted travel news sites and one of the world’s top diving magazines,” says Curaçao Tourist Board Marketing Manager North America André Rojer. “Travelers are excited about discovering exotic, off-the-radar destinations, such as Curaçao.”
“Our new country status, hotel developments and increased airlift are helping to propel the island forward as an increasingly emerging destination for Americans.”
Fodor’s raves, “Superb Dutch colonial architecture is but one of its assets; a terrific culinary scene, Latin-meets-Caribbean vibe, rich culture, and active lifestyle–from kayaking to hiking and diving–conspire to create one of the Caribbean’s most cosmopolitan getaways.”
AOL Travel describes the Curaçao’s stunning capital as a Caribbean fairytale, adding, “The island became a self-autonomous region within the Netherlands in October 2010, and its citizens will be celebrating all year. Not that they shouldn't celebrate every year. Curacao offers exceptional diving, charming plantations (landhuizen), and eco-centric activities in its cunucu (countryside).”
Curaçao was also the only Caribbean destination on SmarterTravel’s short list that included unique, global locales such as Iceland and New Zealand, and hot spots a bit closer to home, such as New York City and Atlanta, Georgia.
SmarterTravel praises the azure-blue waters and colorful architecture of Curaçao, writing, “It's not every day the world gets a new country. But 2011 will mark Curacao’s first full year as an autonomous nation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, adding a new chapter to the island’s rich history. Among its first orders of business is making itself more accessible to Americans and Canadians.”
USA Today, one of the top daily newspapers in the U.S., also picked up on SmarterTravel’s recommendations for travel in 2011.
Last year Curaçao was chosen as a ‘Top 10 Destination for 2010’ by Microsoft’s Bing.com, one of the hottest new search engines on the Web.
The unique island paradise of Curaçao has an ideal locale, situated between Aruba and Bonaire, just 35 miles north of Venezuela. Unlike many Caribbean islands, Curaçao enjoys a prime location on the fringe of the hurricane belt, making for a spectacular vacation any time of year.
Fodor’s, AOL Travel and SmarterTravel are top online travel resources for providing trusted travel news, deals, expert advice, as well as travel guides for destinations across the globe.

Hurtigruten Immerses Guests in History & Culture on 9-Day “Spring in Western Europe
HURTIGRUTEN’S NINE-DAY “SPRING IN WESTERN EUROPE” IMMERSES GUESTS IN
CENTURIES OF HISTORYAND CULTURE FROM LISBON, PORTUGAL, TO DOVER, U.K.
New York, NY, January 2011 – Hurtigruten’s “Spring in Western Europe” visits nine fascinating ports in as many days, including Porto, Portugal, a bustling city that retains its old world charm; Bordeaux, France, one of the world’s greatest wine regions; and the English city of Dover, famous for its chalky white cliffs. Optional excursions in each of the stops – from a visit to the Saint-Emilion & Pomeral Vineyards to independent cycle exploration in Sark – give guests the opportunity to personalize their cruising experience and start at only $30. Prices for the April 7, 2011 voyage range from $1,276 to $3,598.
Departing from Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon, built on seven hills along the shores of the River Tejo, the MS Fram sails to the city of Porto, an eclectic mix of old world charm and lively modern commerce. A short stop in Villa Garcia gives guests an opportunity to tour the stunning Galacia region before arriving in La Coruña, a Spanish port nicknamed “The Crystal City” for the glass and white facades of its harbor-facing buildings. Navigating the Bay of Biscay, the ship stops in the famous wine region of Bordeaux – a fascinating city comprised of wide avenues, beautiful parks and neo-classical architecture – before continuing on to the idyllic island of Sark and the bustling harbor town of St. Peter’s Port in Guernsey. After spending a day in Honfleur, a picturesque town on the Normandy coast, the voyage disembarks at Dover.
The optional excursions in each port provide wonderful opportunities to delve deeper into the areas visited, returning with a greater understanding of the histories and current attractions. Offerings include a tour and river cruise on a typical Rabelo Boat – traditionally used for transporting wine – in Porto, Portugal; a guided bus tour to Santiago de Compostela, a magnificent example of medieval town building; a visit to the Saint-Emilion region, including a guided tour of a local vineyard, lunch in a traditional local restaurant and a tour of the town; a walking tour of the picturesque fishing town of Honfleur, France, with a stop at the Eugene Boudin Museuml; and a tour of medieval Canterbury and its famous cathedral.
Fares include accommodation in the cabin grade of your choice; fixed transfers from the Lisbon airport to port of departure and from the Dover port to London Heathrow Airport; all meals on board, including a selection of drinks for those in suites; and a wind and water proof jacket. International flights and optional excursions are additional.
The deluxe MS Fram is named after the polar ship built and used by Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen in the late 1800s -- the only wooden ship to venture out on explorations of both the North and South Poles. The modern intimate design sets it apart from other ships making port in Europe. Its size, with only 318 passengers on these sailings, allows easier access in ports and up close views of wildlife, and its deluxe status provides more of a yacht environment versus the more common mega ship experience. The ship boasts excellent conference and meeting facilities, a large glass-enclosed observation salon offering panoramic views of the outside scenery, restaurant with ocean views, wellness center with saunas, work-out room and two glass-screened heated outdoor whirlpools, a bistro, a guest bridge for viewing selected data from the ship’s bridge and a ship’s library. Its specially equipped tender lobby makes expeditions to shore in Polarcirkel boats both safe and comfortable.
Hurtigruten is a world leader in expedition cruising, sailing to the most remote of destinations including Antarctica, Greenland and the Arctic’s Spitsbergen as well as year round along Norway's coast and Europe in the spring. Additional information on all of these adventures, as well as brochures and reservations, can be obtained from Tyus Tours & Travel, 5773 Emporium Square, Columbus, Ohio 43231, 866-547-5362.
