CLIA is highlighting five key reasons why people should consider a cruise. Fulfilling the bucket list tops those, with 95% of CLIA agents surveyed reporting an uptick in new cruise destinations fueled by travelers yearning to see bucket-list places.
Sixty-two percent of the agents cited more cruises booked to Alaska, making it the top growth destination, according to CLIA. Other top growth destinations: Caribbean/Bermuda/Mexico, Mediterranean/Europe and Canada/New England.
Unpacking once is another reason to cruise. Without the hassle of checking into and out of hotels, packing and repacking and coordinating myriad travel details, cruising, CLIA said, is 'the simplest, worry-free way to explore multiple destinations.
More Adventure
Many travelers are looking for more adventurous vacations, and CLIA cited Alaska as the favored choice for adventure or expedition travel. Other high-adventure destinations include the Galápagos Islands, the South Pacific and Antarctica.
Pampering is yet another draw; from its room service to spas, cruise travel is known for this. Suite guests are often waited on by butlers, and spa treatments can range from 24-carat-gold facials to chocolate body massages.
A fifth reason to #ChooseCruise is more healthy options than ever before. Chefs plan health-conscious foods for various dietary needs, while fitness equipment, classes and seminars keep travelers in shape and options like ice skating, zip lining and surfing provide fun ways to keep active aboard ship.
Exclusive promotions
During October, cruise lines are offering exclusive deals and promotions. On social handles like @CLIAGlobal on Twitter, Facebook and more, the association is leveraging daily observances and holidays to showcase cruise travel and integrate cruising into popular social conversations. From National Taco Day and Sweetest Day to Picasso’s Birthday and Great Books Day, CLIA noted October is filled with observances that help show the variety cruising has to offer.

How To Make America Great Again

Why can't cruise ships carry travelers between U.S. ports, such as San Diego and Seattle or New York and Miami.
These days, anyone can hop on a cruise from Miami to Cuba. But if you try to board a ship from Miami to Key West, New York or Charleston, Grover Cleveland will stop you.
In 1886, President Cleveland tried to protect American jobs by signing the Passenger Vessel Services Act, which permits only U.S.-flagged vessels to carry travelers between U.S. ports, such as San Diego and Seattle or New York and Miami. How does a ship get a U.S. flag? To qualify, the ship must be made at a U.S. shipbuilding facility, owned by an American company and staffed by an American crew.
What Cleveland and his Congress obviously did not foresee was that, by the late 20th century, nearly every cruise ship sailing in U.S. waters would be built abroad — from Princess’ Love Boats to Crystal’s luxury liners to Disney’s magical floating kingdoms.
Would you like to cruise the Hawaiian Islands? You have two options.
You can find a ship willing to make a detour to a foreign port. Say, Ensenada, Mexico (2,600 miles from Honolulu), Vancouver, Canada (2,800 miles away), or Fanning Island (a remote 13-mile atoll belonging to the Republic of Kiribati that Gen. Douglas MacArthur probably couldn’t find).
The PVSA doesn’t just crimp your travel plans. Contrary to Cleveland’s intentions, it costs U.S. jobs.
Or you can buy a ticket on the only passenger vessel in the entire world that has permission to sail between U.S. ports. It’s called thePride of America, although the story behind that ship does not inspire much patriotic feeling.
In 2001, powerful Southern senators arranged for U.S. taxpayers to subsidize a shipyard in Mississippi so it could build a cruise vessel. It tried, and it failed. Within a year, a bungled, half-completed hull was declared “unfloatable” and was towed across the Atlantic to be completed in Germany for Norwegian Cruise Lines. But to avoid embarrassment to the U.S. government, the ship is still billed as “Made in America” and is free from the knotted mooring of the Passenger Vessel Services Act.
With that one exception, for the last 50 years, American shipbuilders have not riveted together a single cruise ship that fulfills the requirements set forth in 1886.
The PVSA conjures true absurdities. When a collision on the Mississippi led the U.S. Coast Guard to close access to the river in February 2004, two Carnival cruise ships that had left from New Orleans were forced to divert to Gulfport, Miss., and Mobile, Ala. The ships had nothing to do with the crash. Nonetheless, U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorities fined the company $2.8 million for daring to show up at the docks in Gulfport and Mobile and thereby violating the PVSA. Although the fines were later overturned, Carnival would have saved itself a lot of trouble by seeking asylum in Havana.
Often, to avoid falling afoul of the PVSA or being forced to travel in the wrong direction to satisfy it, cruise ships simply skip U.S. ports altogether. Most cruises to Alaska depart from Vancouver, skipping Seattle. Many cruises to Hawaii depart from Ensenada, rather than San Diego.
So the PVSA doesn’t just crimp your travel plans. Contrary to Cleveland’s intentions, it costs U.S. jobs.
This is how to make America great again:
Without the PVSA, dozens more cruises would depart daily from U.S. cities such as New York and Seattle, and the hundreds of millions of dollars generated from those voyages would stay within the U.S. economy, providing thousands of portside jobs — for longshoremen loading cargo, bellhops, tour guides, taxi drivers and local farmers supplying fruits and vegetables for those all-you-can-eat buffets. And of course, each stop would generate revenue for U.S. cities in port fees as well as local and state taxes.
Who does the PVSA protect? Not Americans. Instead, Canada and Mexico should send thanks to that Congress of 1886, “attn. Grover Cleveland.” The cruise docks of San Diego sit vacant 90% of the year. Meanwhile, 80 miles south, Ensenada receives more than three times as many passengers as San Diego, and many more than New York, New Orleans and Boston. Vancouver hosts three times as many sailings as Seattle. Since cruising generates an estimated $3.2 billion for Canada’s ports, it’s no surprise that the Canadian government lobbies to preserve the PVSA.
We now have a president who says he wants to put America first. One easy way for President Trump to make good on that pledge is to repeal the Passenger Vessel Services Act, which helps no passengers, provides no valuable services and acts to kill job opportunities — from sea to shining sea.
How To Prepare For Europe's Air Disruptions
8/4/2017 7:08:33 AM Link 0 comments | Add comment
Vacaton Packages
Flights provide the power to experience new destinations and cultures in-person, across the world. Soaring through high skies over green terrain and blue seas, air travel is surprisingly not everyone's favorite part of travel. However, it's essential to know the impact air travel can have on your vacation. Be ahead of any problems that may arise and have a plan before you depart.
Air Issues 101
Security Delays
With the increase in security measures across international airports, travelers are experiencing hefty wait times going through immigration and customs. Be advise of this before you depart so you're aware ahead of time. While transfer services monitor flight delays, they don't keep into account flight changes, cancellations or wait times that exceed one hour for customs. To avoid missing a transfer, contact the transfer service on their voucher once they land or if their flight has been changed or cancelled.
Air Strikes
Make sure the airlines have your contact information. The airlines will typically notified several hours prior to labor strikes. They will work quickly and efficiently reviewing all affected tickets, adjusting itineraries, and securing new flights with the least disruption possible. They will contact you and advise of the situation and new flight information when possible. If they don’t have contact details they will notify your travel agent so that they can advise you appropriately.
Schedule Changes
Airlines modify their schedules constantly. If a flight is changed by at least 60 minutes and disturbs a connecting flight, you will be advise of the schedule change and offer alternate schedules that are closest available to the original schedule. Please note, all schedule changes must be confirmed in email format. So make sure your contact information is available.
Missed Flight
If you miss a flight at your own expense (ie. late to the airport, don’t show up, etc.) the airlines will automatically have the remainder of your flights cancelled under the same PNR. Since you did not arrive on time, you’re considered a “no-show” and the airline assumes you will be missing the remainder of your flights. So arrive at the airport 3 hours early for international flight.
Flight Delay or Cancellation
When flights are delayed or cancelled, we are all at the mercy of the airline. We advise you to discuss your options with the airline representative and to be friendly and calm; the airline representative is in full control of rebooking their flight.
If additional services are booked:
Delayed: Transfer services monitor flight delays and are prepared to pick-up at the new estimated arrival time. In the worst case scenario, and you have an overnight delay, call your travel agent so they can advise the hotel and transfer services.
Cancelled: If the flight is cancelled, transfer services need to be contacted timely, to advise of the new flight details. This can be done directly by you or by calling our emergency line. All contact information is included within the travel documents.
We strongly suggest Travel Insurance. You can call their business line so they can advise the hotel and transfer services.
Air
Tyus Tours and Travel uses Europe Express who offers both private and published rates for most major international carriers in all classes of service, including economy, premium economy, business class, and first class. In addition to arranging transatlantic airfare, we can also ticket a large number of inter-European flights. Many of these flights cannot be searched online, if you require a domestic European segment, please contact Tyus Tours & travel to inquire about pricing and availability. Please note; many international flights require the inclusion of land components and requirements vary by carrier.
Frequent flyer mileage, seat assignments and baggage fees and sizes vary by carrier and can change suddenly so it is always important to check these requirements prior to travel. To read more about baggage fees, airport taxes and other airport-related topics, please click here.

Preparing for Autumn in Europe

Vacaton Packages
In the midst of peak season, the travel world isn't slowing down anytime soon. Less visited destinations like Switzerland and Portugal continue to grow in popularity and compared to last year, Iceland grew an astonishing 54%.
So, what does this mean? Keep traveling! We'll go over why autumn is the perfect time to travel and what's new with us, including the addition of a few new hotels.
3 Reasons to Travel to Europe in the Fall
Fewer Crowds
With over six million visitors each year to the Louvre in Paris, the Mona Lisa in July can be packed. However, in the autumn, students are returning to school, families are preparing for the holidays, and many are back at the work place. While there will still be plenty of people in Autumn, you will find shorter lines and fewer crowds.
Reasonable Prices
Nearly five million Americans take European vacations in May through August, so it can be difficult to find an inexpensive flight. During shoulder season, more options are typically available and for less. Our advise is you'll get more bang for your buck if you travel during fall, compared to summer.
Modest Weather
Unlike hotels in the US, European hotels may not always have an air conditioner waiting for you in the midst of summer. In fact, the E.U. forces some regulations on companies to avoid air-conditioning for energy-efficiency purposes. If you are concerned about excessive heat, consider their departure in September or October when temperatures are cooler.

Come Home to a Luxurious Resort for the Holiday
Thanksgiving can be hectic. Between out-of-town family, days of dinner preparation, and the subsequent clean-up, it’s understandable why so many people find the whole experience a bit chaotic, despite the fact that it’s a welcome opportunity to catch up with friends and loved ones.
Luckily, the Thanksgiving holiday doesn’t have to be as stressful as many people often expect it to be. Today, more people are deciding to spend their Thanksgiving at a luxurious resort. In addition to the fact that spending Thanksgiving at an exciting destination allows you to escape from the preparation and clean-up, it also provides a unique foundation to spend quality time with the people you love the most.
5 Smart Reasons to Spend the Thanksgiving Holiday at a Resort
While many people associate Thanksgiving with gathering in a friend or loved one’s home, heading to a place like the resorts at CLC World Florida is an excellent alternative. Here’s why:
-
Staying at a resort means you don’t have to spend days cooking
If you book accommodations at Regal Oaks, you can have your Thanksgiving meal prepared by Coastal Grill & Bar and delivered right to your door. Anyone who has ever spent days slaving over the stove – stuffing turkeys and baking pies – knows exactly how much time this can save.
What will you do with all that extra time, you ask? It’s simple. You’ll spend it relaxing and making lasting memories with the people you love the most!
If you choose not to have your meal delivered, no problem! Simply head down to the on-site restaurant on Thanksgiving and enjoy a leisurely dinner that you didn’t have to prepare.
-
At a resort, Thanksgiving can be a vacation and a holiday
If your Thanksgiving tradition has never included hot tubs and world-class service, it’s time to get used to the idea. The resorts at CLC World Florida offer large townhomes that you can make your own for the duration of your stay. Forget cramped, cheap hotel rooms: these luxurious accommodations allow you to enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday to the fullest.
-
A resort makes it easy to experiment with new culinary delights
Stuck in a Thanksgiving dinner rut? Consider spending it at a resort that will help you expand your horizons. Romy’s Restaurant at Encantada Resorts, for example, offers a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and a unique menu to help satisfy your taste buds and help you build new Thanksgiving traditions.
-
Staying at a resort allows you to enjoy Thanksgiving more
Sure, you love seeing your friends and family, but you don’t like washing endless dishes, stressing over a packed house, or trying to keep your guests entertained for a week. When you spend Thanksgiving at a resort, though, all of those concerns are a thing of the past.
With the resorts at CLC World Florida, you can kick back and relax and allow the helpful staff to transform your Thanksgiving holiday into the reprieve you deserve. Whether you want to dig into a good book, spend time getting to know your daughter’s new boyfriend, or enjoy quality moments with your grandchildren, spending the Thanksgiving Holiday at a resort gives you the luxury and the free time to do just this.
-
A resort can help you build special memories
Heading out of town is a special experience for the whole family. When you book direct at a luxurious resort for the thanksgiving Holiday, it’s easy to create a special experience for every member of your family – young and old!
Come Home This Thanksgiving
The upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday calls for new traditions, and spending your special time at resort like the Regal Oaks or Encantada Resorts is a great way to enjoy exclusivity benefits, build new memories, savor your time more, and reduce the stress so often associated with hosting a big holiday. So, go ahead, come home for Thanksgiving this year. The resorts at CLC World Florida. To book call Tyus Tours & Travel at 866-547-5362.

We love running tours in our U.S. National Parks.
This Thursday, August 25, the National Park Service turns 100 and entry to all U.S. National Parks is Free.
We are fortunate not only to have the parks themselves, but also to have access to the parks' features via thoughtfully paved roads.
National Park and road engineers are instructed to both conserve a park's beauty and somehow also make the park accessible. As the National Parks Chief of Parkways Dudley C. Bayliss asked, "...how far can you go in opening up roads to enjoy the scenic and historic wonders of our country at the expense of destruction of some part of the very

thing you are striving to protect?"
The answer: roads that are made for the journey, not just getting from point A to point B.
It's no accident that Glacier National Park's
Going to the Sun Road or the rim ride in
Crater Lake National Park are on many a cyclist's bucket list. These, and all national park roads are built with principles like these in mind:
They are planned to reach the principal features of the park rather than to serve as the most direct route from "point to point." Planned and located to present the story or picture of the park in the best chronological or interpretive order. Since they are a means by which visitors see and enjoy the park, they are essentaially low speed roads.
This almost perfectly mirrors our approach to tour design. Miles of scenic, or historic points of interest? Yes! Adding even more miles just to get some more views? Yes! Intentionally going slower in order to savor the place you are in? Yes, yes, yes - this is why we're here. This is why we keep coming back, year after year.
We love biking these roads - because they were built just for us.

Visits to National Parks reached an all-time high in 2015 with more than 307 million visitors. Our U.S. National Parks are budget friendly getaways and a recent survey stated that 79% of Americans say they are as likely or more likely to visit a National Park in the next 12 months.
The National Parks Service (NPS) will celebrate their official centennial on August 25, 2016, but while most travellers are familiar with America’s 58 National Parks, which bear such majestic names as Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon, the centennial celebration encompasses all of the 400+ nationally protected monuments, battlefields, military parks, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas and more that make up the National Park Service.
With global uncertainty, many Americans are turning to domestic vacations and the wide variety of National Parks offer something for every traveler to discover. Re-discovery of the National Park System is a further sign that Americans are taking more and more advantages of local and regional attractions as gas prices stay below $3 per gallon.
These were the most visited National Parks in 2015: the Great Smoky Mountains, the Grand Canyon and the Rocky Mountains and our bucket list for the upcoming year is Yellowstone (33%), Yosemite (17%) and Grand Canyon (12%) were the top must-sees. If you visit our National Parks August 25-28, September 24, and November 11th all entrance fees will be waived.

How to Beat the Summer Heat on a Colorado Dude Ranch
7/1/2016 4:13:45 AM Link 0 comments | Add comment
Vacaton Packages
Is the summer heat getting you down? Is your family getting cranky at the prospect of spending another day cramped around the air-conditioner?
If so, taking a trip to the beach might not be the solution you’re looking for. You won’t get a break from the high temps there, but you will find crowds, litter, loud music, and the hassles of parking. Why not skip all of that and find some real relief from the summer weather by visiting a Colorado dude ranch?
We have lots of ways you can beat the heat. Here are just a few of our favorites…
Get a Break From the Humidity
Although it can get warm in Colorado, it’s a very dry heat. On our ranch properties, you won’t have to deal with the oppressive humidity that’s so prevalent in many parts of the country. Perhaps that’s why so many guests and families come to us from Texas, Florida, and elsewhere in the South.
Ride or Hike up to the Timberline
Average daily temperatures can drop 15 or 20 degrees (and sometimes even more) as you climb a few thousand feet in elevation. That’s why visiting a Colorado ranch can be a great way to escape triple-digit heat. To get even more relief, you can take a hike, or horseback ride, up above the timberline and the surrounding mountains.
Lounge by the Pool
Instead of baking at the closest beach, you could get a break from the heat by spending a day by the pool. With large umbrellas, cozy beach towels, and indoor air conditioning when you need it, we have everything you need to stay comfortable and protected from the sun.
Step Into a Mountain Stream
If you prefer to be a bit more old-fashioned, you can visit one of the mountain streams close to our ranch properties. There aren’t many things as invigorating as stepping into a trickle of icy alpine water on a warm summer afternoon. You’ll also find great places to sit, read, talk, or take pictures.
Visit Your Favorite Fishing Hole
Summers are great for mountain fishing, and we have lots of idyllic streams, lakes, and ponds where you can catch something fresh. The Colorado backcountry features some of the best fishing in the world, regardless of whether you’re a serious angler or someone who’s just looking for a fun way to spend a few hours
.
See the Stars for the First Time
As wonderful as our Colorado working ranches are during the day, you’ll never forget the nights you spend with us. That’s because the elevation, lack of city lighting, and clear skies make for spectacular stargazing. It’s not unusual for guests to tell us they feel like they’re seeing the night sky for the first time.
The summer can be long and hot, or a fun time for relaxing and rejuvenating. Why not make things easier for yourself and your family by visiting a Colorado ranch this year?

Extensive upgrades to Norwegian's private Bahamian island Great Stirrup Cay include a new family recreation area; addition of a 1,000 foot-long zip line; expanded dining options; and an exclusive access lagoon retreat with private air-conditioned villas to open by Summer 2017
Miami, Fla (June 2, 2016) - Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed details of the new experience that awaits guests at the company's 250-acre private island oasis, Great Stirrup Cay. As the first cruise line to acquire a private island in 1977, Norwegian Cruise Line has invested in several significant updates throughout the years in order to continually enhance the amenities at Great Stirrup Cay, located in the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas. Now, as a part of Norwegian's $400 million investment program
The Norwegian Edge™, the cruise line is revolutionizing the destination now through summer 2017 to provide new luxurious amenities, new adventure activities, enhanced and expanded dining options that, together, will present an upgraded atmosphere for guests visiting the island.
Island Experiences
As with previous investments, Norwegian is again focusing on the top to bottom details of the private island experience at Great Stirrup Cay, providing larger scale new restaurants and amenities, as well as numerous smaller details to raise the bar on the island experience even higher. Great Stirrup Cay's 10 acre beach will soon feature a new half mile oceanside boardwalk that will span the length of the shore with more than 100,000 square feet of pathway, offering easy access to the white sand beaches, as well as access to new shaded areas with benches for relaxation. Just adjacent to the beach, guests looking for a more active island experience can visit the new half-acre entertainment and activity complex, featuring a stage for live music, games and entertainers; basketball and volleyball courts, complete with bleachers; ping-pong tables; and a shaded picnic area where families can play board games or relax together. A new air-conditioned reception area will serve as the central hub for family-fun where guests can plan their day, reserve activities, rent board games and have access to expansive changing rooms.

Guests seeking heart-pumping adventure will soon be able to enjoy a new zip line course featuring more than 1,000 feet of zip line, allowing guests a bird's eye view of the island and the sea as they soar through the air. The island's two parallel zip lines offer the chance for some friendly competition and high-flying races. Those who prefer to take to the sea for exploration can snorkel through the island's new mystical underwater sculpture garden. Using a waterproof map as a guide, adventure seekers can discover nautical creatures that tell tales of the deep from beneath the sea.
From the many new shaded lounge and picnic spaces, to more than $1 million in new landscaping throughout the island, to new restrooms and lockers at the tender marina, guests will find a whole new experience by January 2017.
|
Dining
All dining and bar venues will be updated island-wide, adding new resort-style decking, shaded areas, high-top seating at all bars and family-style seating that will add 50 percent more seating capacity at all dining outlets.
A new complimentary taco bar, Abaco Taco, will be added near the island's entertainment hub, where guests can create their own favorite tacos. The island's 8,500-square foot buffet will be redesigned to provide faster and more efficient service for guests, and the deck surrounding the buffet will be expanded so guests can enjoy their lunch at new seating areas. The center of the island will feature a shaded lounge area with modern chic furniture and bar service, for guests who want to enjoy paradise in style.
Building on the brand's exclusive partnership with Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, Great Stirrup Cay will also feature a LandShark Bar & Grill. Inspired by the traditional beach bars of the Atlantic Coast, LandShark Bar & Grill offers the perfect mix of casual dining, free-flowing drinks and fun with panoramic ocean views and indoor and outdoor seating. Menu items will be available à la carte.
|

Guests seeking the ultimate island luxury will experience a retreat like no other at Great Stirrup Cay's exclusive lagoon enclave, beginning in Summer 2017. And let's not forget the Red Lane Spa sthat is on the private island. Remember you can book a spa. Just include this in the price of the package!
