Europe: Be Ready for New Visa-Free Registration Requirement

If you are planning to travel to Europe in 2024, you may be required to register your travel online prior to departure. Although no official date has been announced, it's likely if you plan to travel to Europe later in the year you may be required to register.

Under the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), American passport holders traveling to 30 European countries will need to register online prior to travel for short trips to the countries of the Schengen Zone. No visa is required for those who qualify for travel under ETIAS.

The application isn't open yet, but the European Union says that when it is, all necessary forms can be filled out via a web portal or mobile app and will cost 7 Euros (about $8 U.S.).
